City vs Suburbs: things to consider

Сообщение NEEDestate » Пт май 05, 2017 12:40 pm

Are you in the midst of deciding whether to live in the city or the suburbs? There are over 130 communities in Dubai, and when it comes to apartment hunting, location is a priority. To enjoy the most out of the surrounding neighbourhood and your new home, it’s important that you choose an area that fits your lifestyle.

Consider the following aspects to find the right location that meets your residential needs:

1. Space: more or less

The closer you move to the most commercial parts of the city, such as DIFC, the more expensive the square footage is. Suburbs, such as The Villa, on the other hand, offer you space without breaking your budget. So if you’re looking for more square footage for your buck, start looking for accommodation in the suburbs. It’s a matter of trade-off; you either can afford to live closer to everything happening in the city in a smaller apartment, or live in a bigger apartment or villa and sacrifice short commutes.

2. Commutes: long or short

How long does it take for you to drive to work? The answer might depend on the potential traffic jams, so consider the following: sometimes commuting from the suburbs to the city can take you less time than commuting within the city since the roads you would take are less busy. For example, during rush hour, a trip from Downtown to Remraam can take from 30 to 50 minutes, while commuting to Business Bay from the same area would be a matter of just 15 minutes.

On the other hand, if you decide to live in the centre of the city, there’s a high chance that you’ll get stuck in the bumper-to-bumper traffic during rush hour unless you live steps away from work. As for finding public transportation, taxis and other methods of transportation, this can be easier to find in the heart of the city, so it really depends on the distance between where you decide to live and your place of work.

3. Facilities: drive or close by

Not that suburbs don’t provide you with the facilities that you need – the Green Community, for example, has nothing to feel less confident about in comparison to the Greens – but we all know it’s different in the heart of the city. When it comes to shopping, dining, and entertainment, a different experience awaits in the central areas. It’s the proximity and standard of facilities that can highly vary between the city and suburbs.

4. View: green neighbourhood or city skyline

High city towers can have an amazing skyline view, yet if you end up taking that apartment on the 2nd floor you might have to deal with a stark brick view of the building facing you, with barely any sunlight coming in. On the other hand, living in the suburbs can offer you the views of a lush green landscape. If you’re the type of person that loves being bounded by nature, then a spacious villa in the suburbs may be just right for you.

Finally, wherever you decide to live, make sure to weigh the pros and cons of the lifestyle, the costs, the safety, in addition to the opportunities for peace and quiet that each of your options have to offer.
